Animal Control Officers

WestPet is staffed by Animal Control Officers who provide a multitude of services. The Animal Control Officers respond to calls for service in the cities of West Des Moines, Clive and Urbandale. These calls for service include dogs or cats at large, wildlife issues, excessively barking dogs, health and welfare of domestic animals, etc. The Animal Control Officers are generally on duty from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. The Animal Control Officers operate several different vehicles that facilitate responding to calls for service. These vehicles allow the Animal Control Officers to catch and confine stray domestic animals for transport to the WestPet Animal Shelter.

The Animal Control Officers maintain the WestPet Animal Shelter that houses stray domestic animals. Feeding and daily care are provided to stray domestic animals until they can be reunited with their owners. If the owner cannot be identified or does not claim their animal, the Animal Control Officers work with area shelters to take custody of the animals in order to provide long term care and release.
